DeKalb, Crystal Lake South play to 2-2 tie

DeKALB – The DeKalb boys soccer team dominated possession in the first half, but had to hold on with defense in the second half as the Barbs played to a 2-2 tie with Crystal Lake South.

Despite controlling the ball for most of the first half, the Barbs (3-0-2) were down, 1-0, until Andrew Leon, with an assist from Jesus Becerra, put the Barbs on the board at 7:20 in the first half.

“We’ve had opportunities, but we’ve been hitting that goalkeeper, we’ve been blasting it wide, blasting it over.  So I was pleased to see the technical ability come through,” DeKalb coach Brent McIntosh said.
Becerra again would set up a teammate as he assisted on a goal by Luis Cabral at 3:50 to put the Barbs up, 2-1, going into the half.
“The second one I was trying to actually shoot it, but then I thought about not being selfish, so I passed the ball to (Cabral). On the first one, I just saw space open and put it right through,” Becerra said.
