Chargers' Comeback Falls Short Against Donovan
Illinois Lutheran stayed in it until the end, but Donovan pulled away late in a 10-7 victory on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Donovan batting in the bottom of the sixth when Hope Mitton doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Illinois Lutheran collected seven hits and Donovan had seven in the high-scoring affair.
Illinois Lutheran got on the board in the first inning when Hannah Askew threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for the Chargers . After
Illinois Lutheran scored two runs in the top of the third, Donovan answered with two of their own. Illinois Lutheran scored when Mollie Hinz tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and a sacrifice bunt by Madison Peters scored one run for the Chargers .
Askew earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Donovan. She lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out six.
Haeli Wheeler took the loss for Illinois Lutheran. She allowed seven hits and nine runs over five and a third innings, striking out two.
Hinz led Illinois Lutheran with two hits in four at bats. Irene Veldhuizen led the Chargers with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
Morgan Squyres went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Donovan in hits.
