Chargers Fall to Grant Park

  • Illinois Lutheran Chargers couldn't keep up with Grant Park and fell 14-2 on Friday.
  • In the first inning, Illinois Lutheran  got their offense started when Mollie Hinz drew a walk, scoring one run.
  • In the bottom of the first inning, Grant Park tied things up at one. Kassidy Tierney grounded out, scoring one run.
  • Grant Park pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Haeli Wheeler's wild pitch allowed three runs to score for Grant Park, Wheeler threw a wild pitch allowing two runs across the plate for Grant Park, and Tierney hit a solo homer.
  • Grant Park scored seven runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Grant Park came thanks to singles by Quinn Mattson and Tierney, by Erica Reyes, an error on a ball put in play by Madison Meherg, and a double by Hadleigh Loitz.
  • Meherg led the Grant Park to victory on the pitcher's mound. She allowed three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six.
  • Wheeler took the loss for Illinois Lutheran Chargers . She went one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out one.
  • Grant Park mashed two home runs on the day. Tierney had a homer in the second inning. Mattson had a dinger in the second inning.
  • HinzWheeler, and Emma Dorn each managed one hit to lead the Chargers .
  • Grant Park racked up ten hits. MattsonTierney, and Loitz all managed multiple hits for Grant Park. Mattson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Grant Park in hits. Grant Park was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Tierney had the most chances in the field with six.
