Chargers Come Back in 5th Inning and Hold on to Defeat Grant Park
Illinois Lutheran stole the lead late and defeated Grant Park 12-8 on Tuesday. The game was tied at seven with the Chargers batting in the bottom of the fifth when Haeli Wheeler singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Illinois Lutheran collected eight hits and Grant Park had nine.
In the second inning, Grant Park got their offense started. Grant Park scored one run when Sarah Dejonge tripled.
Wheeler led the Illinois Lutheran Chargers to victory on the pitcher's mound. She went six and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out two. Mollie Hinz threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Alyssa Mort took the loss for Grant Park. She lasted two and a third innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out two.
Michaela Hackler started the game for Grant Park. She went two and a third innings, allowing five runs on two hits.
