Father McGivney Catholic High School Cross Country Regionals
The Father McGivney Boy’s Cross Country team ran to 2nd place in the IHSA Regionals at Freeburg. The host team was first overall with 49 points; the Griffins tallied 79 for 2nd. Tyler Guthrie led the way for the running Griffins by finishing 4th overall in 16:18, Tanner Fox ran a strong #2 to finish 11th, Zach Brasel 13th, and Elijah Burns 14th in 17:09. Andrew Dupy finished out the scoring for the Griffins by finishing 37th overall. Clayton ran 6th man in 18:28 for 43rd, and Noah Beltremea finished 77th.
This is the second straight year Father McGivney cross country will run at the IHSA State Sectionals. This year the runner up Regional finish was one higher than last year.
The Lady Griffins made history for the school by fielding not only their first scoring team (10th), but also qualified Lauren Meyer in 15th overall with a 21:11. Mira McAtee ran a gutty race barely finishing out of the individual qualifiers. She ran 22:45. A 4 year runner for the Griffins, it was great to the see the Sr. captain surrounded by a team for her last cross country race! Bridget Weeks finished 60th, Amelia Beltremea 67th, and Izzy Margarida with a huge PR of 27:17. Very proud of the ladies as they worked for the success of the team.
The boys team, and Lauren run next Saturday in the IHSA Benton Sectional where they fire the gun again with IHSA State Championship qualification on the line.
