Lauren Meyer started us off well by finishing 28th overall in the girls’ Sectional race. She had an exceptional finish to her season. Lauren is a talented young lady, and it was nice to see her finish on a high note. She ran the first time for Father McGivney as a sophomore, didn’t run last year, then joined us later this fall. It was rewarding to see her race the Sectional.
The boys team finished in second place, 12 points behind winning Freeburg. Freeburg is ranked 7th, and we come in at 14th. Our boys squad became the first team from Father McGivney to qualify for the State Championships. Going in we felt we were a top-5 team in Sectional, it was refreshing to see our boys race...now we get one more weekend at Detweiller.
We had two medalists; sophomore Tyler Guthrie finished 3rd overall in 15:20. Captain junior Zach Brasel finish 10th in 15:32. Sophomore Tanner Fox ran 15:53 for 18th. Dual sport (with soccer) Diego Pacheco finished 31st in 16:13, and senior Elijah Burns and sophomore Brandon Ahring go 16:24 and 16:25 in 37th/38th. Andrew Dupy runs 86th in 17:24.
Very proud of the young men qualifying for State. Even though they are the first, we return several for next year, and intend to make it an expectation for the program. Over the past couple years they have leaned how to train, and learning how to race...and now, we have one more race left...the IHSA Class A State Championships!
