Girls Soccer Wins Judah Invitational Championship
The #niftynine (Lauren, Olivia, Callie, Yamini, Macheila, Michelle, Nicole, Emma Hummel, and Betsy) pulled off an epic win on Saturday evening in the Judah Invitational championship match.
This was after playing on Friday evening, and Saturday morning with no substitutes, but with a full 11 that included additional help from Emma Herzog (Friday), Sarah (Saturday), and Kathrine (Friday & Saturday).
Playing in the final against an opponent at full capacity (11), two more than our squad, we managed to take the lead at halftime 4-1, on goals by Callie, Michelle, Macheila, and Betsy. Olivia and Yamini made sure Judah’s chances to score were limited, and Emma Hummel was the only connection between our team and Betsy as the lone striker. However, with an 80th minute penalty, Judah completed a second half comeback and tied the match at the end of regulation time, 4-4.
10 minutes of overtime did not decide a winner, so it was to be decided by penalties. Carissa and I selected our 5 penalty shooters, and named the shooting order.
Nicole started with an impressive strike (upper 90), Lauren forced Judah to miss, and made a crucial save, Betsy buried the ball in the back of the net to bring us even, and Callie blasted the final
shot straight up the middle to win the tournament, Uni 4 (3 pen.) - Judah 4 (2 pen.).
Betsy, Callie, and Katherine (top goal scorer (3)) were awarded player of the tournament medals.
Even though we were successful with limited resources, we all look forward to, and we will really appreciate, having everyone back after Spring Break as the season continues.
