The Walther Christian wrestling team participated in the 2018 Schulze Classic at Elmwood Park on Saturday for the Conference JV Tournament. There were no team scores kept for this meet since teams could enter more than one wrestler per weight class. The Broncos had seven wrestlers participate and three of them placed.
Marcos Quevedo (145) finished in 3rd place after winning by a major decision (11-2) over Nate Ringelstein (Ridgewood). Quevedo also won matches over Xavier Herring (Glenbard South) by a technical fall 24-9, and by a 4-2 decision over Nathan Hutchings (Riverside-Brookfield). Gabe Ochoa (182) took 3rd after defeating Brendan Fearon (Glenbard South) by a fall in 1:35. Ochoa also beat Giovanni Guzman (Riverside-Brookfield) by a fall in 5:35.
Chris Colon (113) finished in 5th place after winning by a fall in 2:07 over Quinton Godluewski (Riverside-Brookfield). Addy Rieger (152) did not place but won two matches. Rieger won by a fall in 0:50 over Andrew Rodriguez (Walther Christian), and Addy defeated Andrea Diaz (Elmwood Park) by a fall in 2:34. Kenny Morataya-Giron (160) did not place, but won a match by a fall in 0:58 over Evan Gibbons (IC Catholic Prep). Also participating for the Broncos were Andrew Rodriguez (152) and Randall Sanders (220).
