Maroons demonstrate grit in semifinals
Most teams would have given p. Most teams, however, aren't like the Champaign Central girls' basketball team. The 6th seeded Maroons pulled off an upset on Wednesday night, rallying past No. 3 Paris for a 47-44 win in a Class 3A Rantoul Regional semifinal game.
Champaign trailed 28-16 at halftime and still faced a 35-26 deficit to start the fourth quarter before mounting a furious comeback. CHS relised on a game-high 20 points from Chanice Willis, along with seven points apiece from Aija Gwin, Adeola Badmos and Kayla Wilson, to stave off the Tigers.
Badmos came up clutch in the closing seconds, grabbing a rebound off a Paris miss and then knocking down two free throws to not only help the Maroons reach the double-digit win total this season, but ssecure a spot in Thursday night's 7pm regional title game against Effingham.
