2017 SEASON OUTLOOK

The Mustang boys varsity tennis team looks to earn it's 12th consecutive WSC Gold Title in 2017.  Coming off an exciting 2016 season which ended in a nail biting Conference Title win over the Hinsdale South Hornets, the Mustangs graduated 6 of 12 varsity players.  What remains is a core of veteran leadership surrounded by young talent.  The Mustangs 2 returning seniors, Lawrence Hiquiana and JJ Urgello, will highlight the singles lineup and represent a 1-2 punch in singles that can compete with any team in the state.  Hiquiana is the sole captain of the 2017 Mustangs representing the heart and soul of the team.  Stepping into big shoes are the 4 other returning varsity starters from the 2016 Mustangs including Juniors Nolan Orth and Jon Maghirang and Sophomores Matt Garcia and Mitch Ludewig.  These 4 head a young, but extremely hard working core of doubles players.  The rest of the 2017 varsity boys tennis team may be new to the varsity team, but have immediately bought in to the Varsity Mustang culture.  The coaching staff is extremely excited to see their progress of the course of the season.  New to varsity are 2 freshmen (Tanuj Singh and Michael Wronkiewicz), 3 sophomores (Sushant Lala, Ryan Scehovic, and MarcAnthony Smith), and 3 junior players (Eric Herstowski, Nick Raso and Matt La Rue).  There are high expectations for all of these players as they jump into varsity positions.  It is a team overflowing with potential and budding leaders.  Over the course of the season, the Mustangs look to learn what it means to live fearlessly in the face of adversity.  One thing looked to be certain in the early goings of the season: The Mustangs will NOT be outworked this year.  It looks to be a GREAT seeason to be a Mustang!
