In their best finish yet of the season, the varsity boys tennis team dominated the Glenbard West Invite finishing 1st out of a tough 8 team field. What the Mustangs lack in experience, they make up for in grit as the Mustangs scrapped their way to the finals in all but 1 flight. The Mustangs were tournament champions at the 2 and 3 doubles positions showing their depth. The Mustangs placed 2nd at the 1st singles and 1st doubles positions as well. Lawrence Hiquiana (Sr) had two routine victories before battling Sunny Sirinit of Wheaton Warrenville South in the final. Hiquiana ultimately lost in the last match of the day and was runner up in a tough 1st singles field. 1st doubles team of Matt Garcia (So) and Nolan Orth (Jr) grinded through 2 tough matches to claw their way to the final where they were outmatched by Glenbard West's top team. 3rd doubles team of Eric Herstowski (Jr) and Nick Raso (Jr) made quick work of the field with 3 successive victories to earn their championship. Herstowski and Raso didn't drop a set on the day showing great mental focus. The match of the day came from the 2nd doubles team of JJ Urgello (Sr) and Jon Maghirang (Jr) as they beat a young, but talented 2nd doubles team from Glenbard West in the final 7-5, 7-6 (6) to earn the championship. The Mustangs' invite victory is the confidence boost they need headed into a crucial week of tennis highlighted by a crosstown match against DGN on Monday and conference rival Hinsdale South on Tuesday. Come cheer on your Mustangs on the road this Monday and Tuesday! It was a GREAT day to be a Mustang!!
