ROLLING MEADOWS

DGS Girls Tennis 2-1 at Rolling Meadows Invite

The DGS varsity girls tennis team continued their successes this weekend at the Rolling Meadows Invite where they were victorious in 2 of 3 matches.  Unfortunately, the luck of the draw was not with the Mustangs as they faced eventual tournament champions Fremd first round on their home courts where the Vikings proved to be a slightly better team up and down the lineup.  It was a tough morning for the Mustangs coming off a 1st place finish the prior weekend of 16 teams in Bloomington.  The loss made the Mustangs hungry in the afternoon as they bounced back winning all 10 of 10 individual matches for the rest of the day.  DGS was dominant against Vernon Hills only dropping a total of 9 games across their 5-0 victory.  Of note, the Mustangs had great doubles play up and down the lineup as 1 doubles team Abby Davenport (Sr, 10-9) and Anna Buie (Sr, 9-8) won 6-1, 6-3, 2 doubles team Lizzie Andonova (Jr, 13-7) and Alisha Macas (Jr, 13-7) won 6-0, 6-1 and 3 doubles team Kristiana Radakovic (Sr, 9-7) and Cece Divis (Sr, 11-6) won 6-1, 6-2.  The Mustangs last match of the day was against the Wheaton North Falcons who DGS has not faced in recent years providing a good test.  In the match of the day, the Mustangs blanked the Falcons with a 5-0 victory.  Doubles play was aggressive and confident as all 3 matches were straight set victories.  In this last match of the day, the 2 singles spots were the highlights as Gerda Jucys (Fr, 15-5) and Jillian Urgello (Fr, 14-6) both faced great players.  In possibly her best showing so far in the season, Jucys beat 2-time state qualifier Madeline Fidel decisively 6-1, 6-2.  Urgello bounced back in an up and down battle to play her best tennis in a supertiebreaker winning her match 6-1, 3-6, 10-3 to end the Mustangs' day on a high note.  With a big week ahead, the Mustangs face conference rival Hinsdale South on Tuesday at HS as well as another conference dual against Addison Trail on Thursday at home.  Come out and support your Mustangs in these big matches!  It was a GREAT day to be a Mustang!
