Varsity Tennis Tested Against Top Competition at Rolling Meadows Invite
The Mustang varsity girls tennis team battled 3 great teams on Saturday at the Rolling Meadows Invite as they faced off against Rolling Meadows, Chicago Latin, and Wheaton North. In the opener, doubles shined for the Mustangs who swept Rolling Meadows at all 3 doubles positions. 2nd singles player Jillian Urgello routinely won 6-1, 6-1 against a very solid player as well moving DGS into the semi-finals. In the semis, DGS faced 2nd seeded Chicago Latin HS which was a closely contested battle at every position. Unfortunately, the close matches did not go the Mustangs' way as they 3 tiebreakers. Bright spot was 1st singles player Gerda Jucys who defeated top player from Latin 6-3, 6-3. In the 3rd place match, the Mustangs battled Wheaton North despite an exhausting semi-final. Urgello was victorious again as well as 1st doubles team of Alisha Macas and Lizzie Andonova who defeated WN's top doubles team 6-2, 7-5. Wheaton North showed grit defeating the Mustangs at 1st singles as well as 2nd and 3rd doubles in tight contests. DGS at a record of 7-5 on the year has big matches ahead this week against conference rival Hinsdale South at home on Tuesday as well as Addison Trail and Lincoln Way East on the road Thursday and Friday leading up to the Champaign Doubles Invite at U of I on Saturday. It was a GREAT weekend to be a Mustang!
