Boys Basketball-Dundee-Crown stymies Prairie Ridge
After scoring just 6 points in the second quarter, the Dundee-Crown boys basketball team found itself leading visiting Prairie Ridge 21-20 in the third quarter Saturday.
Then, suddenly, the Chargers exploded. They outscored the Wolves 25-9 the rest of the quarter and cruised to a 58-45 Fox Valley Conference victory.
Jordan Hairston, who finished with a game-high 18 points, keyed the big rally.
He assisted on Jack Orndahl's 3-pointer to make it 24-20. A Hairston steal led to Brad Stec's putback. Hairston got another steal and fed Gabe Bergeron for a dunk. Damarion Butler's steal led to another Stec putback.
The Wolves' Connor Kazin ended the run with a free throw, but he missed the second and Stec rebounded, leading to another Bergeron dunk. Hairston's steal and breakaway layup made it 34-21. After a Prairie Ridge bucket, Bergeron dunked again and the Chargers were on their way.
They led by as many as 20 in the third, then survived a mild Wolves' rally in the fourth.
