High school girls basketball: Dundee-Crown hands McHenry 1st FVC loss
McHENRY – McHenry forward Liz Alsot caught the ball on the block with the Warriors trailing by two and 2.9 nine seconds remaining on the clock.
Dundee-Crown forward Maddie Tripp was right there to greet her with two hands high in the air. Tripp created just enough pressure to make Alsot’s last chance difficult. The shot was off the mark, and Dundee-Crown came away with a 40-38 win over McHenry in Fox Valley Conference play.
The Chargers’ victory snapped McHenry’s 18-game winning streak and handed the Warriors (22-2, 11-1 FVC) their first conference loss.
D-C (14-8, 9-4 FVC) escaped with a hard-fought victory in a raucous atmosphere. The contest featured its share of tense moments, with each team committing an intentional foul in the final 27.7 seconds.
“There were a lot of high-intense moments where we kept poised,” D-C coach Sarah Miller said. “We stayed mentally prepared and focused in those big pressure moments towards the end of the game.”
