High school girls basketball: Cabusao scores 22, Jacobs holds on to defeat Dundee-Crown
ALGONQUIN — Jacobs guard Kyra Cabusao found her way to the rim again and again on Friday night against Dundee-Crown. She scored a game-high 22 points but had to cheer on her teammates from the bench for the final 1:57 after fouling out.
Even without the 5-foot-5 sophomore, the Golden Eagles held on for a 43-42 win over the Chargers. Jacobs (6-9, 4-3 Fox Valley Conference) led by as much as 14 in the first half, but staved off the D-C rally.
D-C (10-7, 5-3 FVC) possessed the ball for the final 59 seconds and used three timeouts to draw up plays, but couldn’t find a game-winning basket.
“They kept coming at us and we knew they would,” Jacobs coach Joe Benoit said. “These types of games, you’ve always got to play to the final buzzer. I thought our kids had just enough left in the tank there to finish it at the end.”
