High school boys cross country roundup: Dundee-Crown almost perfect at Woodstock-Ryan Byrne Festival

Dundee-Crown was two points from a perfect score to win the Woodstock-Ryan Byrne Festival, a flighted cross country meet, Saturday at Emricson Park.

D-C finished with nine points and took two seconds and five firsts in the race. Runners were sent off in seven flights, competing against runners of similar skills rather than the entire field.

D-C finished well ahead of McHenry (21), Vernon Hills (22) and Prairie Ridge (25) in the nine-team field.

Daniel Price (3), Mark Jensen (4), Joey DeVita (5), Lucas Janikowski (6) and Jorge Hernandez (7) all won their flights for the Chargers. Anthony Hurgoi (1) and Adam Swanson (2) took seconds.

McHenry’s Andrew Pilat won Flight 2.

“I really like how my team’s doing this season,” Hurgoi said. “I think we’re ranked 17th in the state (in Class 3A, by ilxctf.com). We want to move up. We just need a little more endurance work and we should be on our way.”
