High school boys basketball: Dundee-Crown tops Crystal Lake Central in defensive battle

CARPENTERSVILLE – In most games, Josh Raby’s 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter might have just been a basket that gave Dundee-Crown some momentum.

In the Chargers’ game with Crystal Lake Central, where both teams mightily struggled to score, it seemed as if it were worth 10 points.

The Tigers had cut D-C’s eight-point lead to one, showing signs of some offensive life, when Raby caught a pass in the right corner and buried the 3.

“It was kind of like, ‘OK, we can breathe a little bit,’ ” Chargers coach Lance Huber said. “I don’t know if it took the wind out of their sails, but it gave our guys a lift, that’s for sure.”

D-C led by at least four the rest of the game and ended Central’s 10-game winning streak, 39-32, on Wednesday in their Fox Valley Conference game.

“It felt good. It was definitely a big shot in the game,” Raby said. “I was in rhythm, and our main focus was getting back on defense after that. It was definitely a huge shot in the game.”
