High school girls basketball: Dundee-Crown shuts down Burlington Central
CARPENTERSVILLE — Midway through the second quarter of Dundee-Crown's girls basketball game against Burlington Central, Chargers' junior guard Payton Schmidt dove head-first into the stands to try and save a loose ball.
Schmidt flung the ball behind her back while lunging forward, then immediately grabbed the metal railing in the second row in mid-air with her opposite hand — spinning herself around 180 degrees — and saving herself from potential injury.
The play drew a standing ovation from many of the home fans in attendance, and was symbolic of the effort the Chargers (11-3) gave for 32 minutes during their 53-43 nonconference win over the Rockets (10-3) on Thursday night.
