Lisle Offense Continues Strong Early Season with 7 - 2 win Over ReedCuster.
The Lady Lions fell behind ReedCuster 1 to 0, early in the game, but managed to get on track late in the first half and won the game 7 to 2.
In the 5th minute, a ReedCuster forward ripped a hard shot at Lisle GoalKeeper Soph. Caitlyn Webber. Caitlyn made the save, but gave up a rebound on the play. Jr. defender Frankie Wagoner got to the ball first and hit a solid clearing attempt right into a ReedCuster player. It bounced off the player and went directly into the goal. Unfortunately Caitlyn had no play on the ball.
Although Lisle did control the pace and action in the majority of the game, their early shots were right at the ReedCuster Goalkeeper who was up to the task. However, in the 23 minute, a ReedCuster defender attempted to clear a Lisle pass out of the penalty area. She passed it directly to Soph. Alexa Fasone and Alexa nailed the shot to the far corner of the goal tying the game.
5 minutes later Alexa scored her 2nd goal of the night. After receiving a brilliant centering pass from Jr. midfielder Josie Brinegar, she shot the ball past the diving RC keeper.
The Lions offense continued to press the RC defense the rest of the half and that paid off with goal number 3 in the 37th minute of the half. A clearing pass from the RC defense was picked up by Fr. defender Hanna Kinney and Hanna launched a hard shot at the RC Goal. A RC defender tried to clear the ball and it came off her foot in a position where the Goal Keeper hand no chance to stop it. That gave the Lions a 3 to 1 lead, going into the half time break.
RC came out with some good energy in the 2nd half and in the 47th minute forced an errant pass from the Lisle defense, earning a corner kick. On the ensuing corner kick, the ball came to Josie, who was playing on the near post. Josie tried to clear the ball out of the goal area but the ball popped up in the air, past Caitlyn's out stretched arms. That gave RC some life getting back in the game, trailing 3 to 2.
The score stayed that way for a while as the Lady Lions had several opportunities to score, but couldn't get the ball in the net. The offense's hard work paid off in the 65th minute. Josie made an aggressive play toward the goal on a 50/50 ball. Neither her or the RC keeper could gather possession and as the ball squirted away from both of them, it looked like Josie might have a lsight advantage getting to the loose ball. The Keeper pulled Josie down and the Ref awarded the Lions a PK. Calli calmly buried the PK and the Lions were up 4 to 2.
4 minutes later Soph. McKenzie Weaver made a few moves around some defenders in the Lions Offensive 1/3 and then sent a quick pass to Calli who was 18 yards out in front of the RC goal. Calli put her shot on the far post past the diving keeper and the Lions had a 5 - 2 lead. RC's heads came down a little and the Lady Lions applied more pressure.
Another 4 more minutes went by and Calli sent a pass to Alexa and Alexa scored her 3rd goal to up the lead to 6 - 2. It was Alexa's 2nd hat trick in as many games.
The final goal for the Lions occurred in the 78th minute and involved two of the newest Lady Lions. Fr. Grace Hoscheidt received a pass from Frankie and turned the ball inside, centering towards Jr midfielder Renee Esposito. Renee used her left foot and lofted the shot over the head of the RC keeper, getting her first Lisle Varsity goal. That capped the scoring with a final score of 7 - 1.
It improved the Lions conference record to 2 and 0, with a 3 - 2 record over all. The Lady Lions travel to Coal City Thursday night for their next game.
