BETTER ATHLETES - BETTER STUDENTS - BETTER PEOPLE
Sloppy defense plus a short roster add up to Loss.
The Lady Lions soccer team played lStilman Valley for the first time in school history. Stillman won the first ever game with a 3 to 1 final score.
The Lady Lions struck first, in the 12th minute, after Sophie Osborn was fouled on a 50/50 ball, Calli Tomko launched the restart towards Stillman Valley's goal. It hit off the cross bar and came down to McKenzie Weaver, who was in the right place at the right time. The ball came to her off the crossbar and she one touched it to the side netting and Lisle had the initial 1 - 0 lead.
Stillman got the equalizer in the 21st meeting, off of a deep throw in. The Lions defense did a poor job of marking Stillman players leaving one of the center midfielders wide open about 20 yards out. She put a nice shot to the far post, beating Lisle Goalkeeper Caitlyn Webber tying up the game.
It was a back and forth game most of the way but Stillman had the much deeper bench and took advantage of it by bring 3 and 4 subs through out the game. Stillman took the lead in the 42nd minute. They had a corner kick and once more the Lisle defense watched as Stillman players crashed the Lisle goal area and they were wide open. Two headers latter, it was 2 to 1.
Stillman scored their final goal with just 3 minutes left in the game. Another defensive reach allowed an unmarked Stillman player to get inside the 18, with a free shot on goal. Grace who was in goal, had little chance to make the save. Next up is Wilmington, next Tuesday night.
While the Lions didn't play a terrible game, they did give up some pretty easy, uncontested goals.
Up next: Wilmington Tuesday night at BU, Game time 6:45.
