Coming back from a 3-1 deficit made the season opener exciting and stressful. Freshman Julia Olander started her Naz career with her fist Goal and the teams first goal of the season against Plainfield Central on March 16. Taking the early lead was the one positive before PC went on to score 3 goals. With a half time score losing 3-1 the roadrunners needed to regroup and play better soccer. Even though we didn't play great soccer this team worked very hard to win the game 5-3 and score4 goals, holding PCscoreless. Very good first game and a team showing great character.
In the Home opener Saturday versusMarian Central Catholic we didn't come out with enough intensity or commitment to win the match After taking the lead off a great hit on a dead ball from Claire Ramsey we just played too casual. This allowed MCC to score 2 goals and win the game 2-1. This was a game we gave away Season 1-1
Next up was last night the 21st away at OPRF. OPRF is always a quality program who are well coached. The Roadrunners came out strong and ready to play. From the start we put great pressure in the attacking third and stopped any forward ball movement. Two Freshman would lead the team to victory. Julia Olander put us in the lead 1-0 off a ball played to her by Ramsey. It was a great strike from the left side of the field. The second goal came off a corner from Freshman defender Holy Skrip who found the ball in the box and headed it past the keeper for her first NAZ goal.
The score would stand at 2-0 as the defense and MC Harrington would get the first shutout of the year. On the field, the team showed a great work rate and outworked the competition for 80 minutes.
