After being rained out against West Aurora the boys tennis team got under way against conference foe Lake Park on Thursday in Rosell. The Warriors were playing without two starters and all of the players worked hard in the windy and cold weather. Waubonsie won the first match at 4 singles where sophomore Tejas Satpalkar quickly finished off his opponent with a 1 and 0 score. Satpalkar has had a real good spring and he works very hard. Senior Huey Nguyen was next with a convincing win at 2 singles 3 and 0. Huey has the topspin game for this weather and he was hitting the ball cleanly letting the wind do its damage. Off to a quick 2-0 start the Warriors then lost a tough contested 1 singles match where Nikhil Sridhar dropped a 2 and 3 match along with a long match at 3 singles from Andrew Bridgeman. The one doubles team of Porter Holyoak and Neel Kamatgi lost the first set 6-1 and then took a commanding 4-1 lead before falling 6-4. We have to learn to finsih games and sets. Shivansh Ahuja and partner Ryan Huff won at 3 doubles 1 and 3. These two work so very hard at practice and it was good to see them succeed. The long match of the night was at 2 doubles where Humza Nazir and Faaris Afridi lost a tough three set match 7-5 in the third. this was the deciding match to the afternoon giving Lake Park a 4-3 win. We got very nervous at 3 doubles and it showed in our movement. This is a very green team that needs to learn how to take practice situations and use them in match play. The Warriors wil play St. Charles East on Monday at home. Hopefully two days of practice before will give these boys some confidence. The Warriors also received wins from Gowtam Mannan at 5 singles and Rocky Pula and Louis Hara at 4 doubles.
