The Youth and Government program provides students with experience in the democratic process through a simulation of the state government. Students work as “legislators” identifying problems that can be solved through government action at the state level. They then write bills that address those problems and work for passage of the legislation in Springfield in a simulated assembly in the Capitol Building with students from across the state. Other aspects of the simulation allow students to work as lobbyists, lawyers, and members of the press.
