Swimming Sectionals Results

The Girls’ Swimming & Diving team ended its 2020 season with a bang, finishing 2nd out of 13 teams at Sectionals (behind only swimming powerhouse St. Ignatius) on Saturday.  It was the team’s highest Sectionals finish since 2013 and a major accomplishment, as the team started off the meet in a significant deficit behind rivals Whitney Young and Jones Payton.  This was a true team effort, as Captain Cece Joshi, Senior Andrea Esperon, Juniors Jannie Esperon, Morgan Rummelhoff and Maddie Zehr, Sophomores Meghan Mansfield, Chloe Symons and Anastazja Szukala, and Freshman Nora O’Connell each earned points for the team by placing among the top swimmers at the Sectionals meet.

Leading the team a second week in a row was Maddie Zehr, who was the Sectionals Champion in the 100 Breaststroke, breaking her own pool and school record- and setting a new Sectionals record that ranked her 16th in the state. She also placed 2nd in the 200 Yard IM, swimming even faster than her record-breaking time from last week.  Strong swims by Meghan Mansfield (100 Breast – 3rd, 500 Free - 3rd and 200 IM - 4th); Anastazja Szukala (100 Free - 3rd, 100 Back - 3rd, and 200 Free - 4th); Jannie Esperon (50 Free - 4th); Chloe Symons (100 Fly - 5th); Morgan Rummelhoff  (50 Free - 5th and 200 Free - 7th ); Cecilia Joshi (100 Free - 6th  and 100 Fly - 7th); Andrea Esperon (100 Back – 6th); and Nora O’Connell (500 Free – 7th) carried the team to its second place finish.

CONGRATULATIONS to this team on the perseverance and dedication it took to finish this unique and challenging season on top, and thanks especially to Coaches Lance Grossman and Jim Cortez and the assistant coaches who helped make this a successful season!
