Lane Tech Cheer Gives All at State Sectionals

NILES WEST HIGH SCHOOL- After a high finish at the city championships, the Lane Tech Cheer team went into this weekend's state sectionals confident and with hopes of moving deep into the state playoffs. Unfortunately, despite giving their all, the season came to an end, with Lane finishing 7th and outside of a qualifying spot to the next round.

With a total of 15 other schools in Lane's grouping, the top five teams would be able to qualify and move on to the next round of the state playoffs. Stevenson, Marist, Schaumburg (H.S), Arlington Heights (Hersey), and Rolling Meadows were able to secure their ticket to the next round after their hard work. Although not making it, Lane did finish higher than it’s fellow CPS rivals, Lincoln Park and Whitney Young.

Lane finished with an overall score of 72.30, less than 7 points off from fifth place finishing Rolling Meadows. With the season now over, the Lane cheer team is able to look back on a great overall season, with a top 5 finish in city under their belt, and being very close to moving on in state. With many of their competitions in the regular season being cancelled, the team may have been cut short on some chances to perfect their craft. The team looks to come back strong next year, juniors Tia Pepper and Alyssa Melendez likely returning for their senior season.
