Lane Tech Falls Short in City Championship

Chicago, Illinois - The Lane Tech Boys swim team got second place in the City Championship to Jones/Payton on February 17, 2020 after a controversial disqualification of Lane’s anchor who left early ultimately costing Lane the win. But the Lane swimmers gave it their all.

They earned 1st place in the 200 yard relay with a time of 3:15.36 dropping 5.37 seconds from their original time. Gavin Trotter, one of the swimmers in this relay, felt confident in his swims and is very excited for sectional next weekend because he believes there is always room to improve. Zack Butters placed 1st in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.42 dropping 5.74 seconds from his original time and also swam the 500 and qualified for state dropping 5 seconds total in that event. With an overall score of 341 points Lane Tech fell short 30 points to take home the win.

Holden, a Junior stated “since I’ve met my goals at city I’m looking to drop more time at sectionals especially in the 200 free relay in order to reclaim our title.” The boys swim team next meet is this weekend at Niles North.
