HUMBOLDT PARK-- The Lane Tech Cross Country team, took part in the Whitney Young Invitational at Humboldt Park this past Saturday 9/19/20. This meet was originally supposed to take place on 9/9/20, but was rescheduled due to certain complications. All levels of the Boy’s Cross Country team “all looked to run more and complete more races in order to improve their aggressiveness”. And boy they didn’t disappoint.
First off is Varsity Boys. Lane sophomore's Hunter Whitney and William Archer. Hunter finished in the top 10 in the 2.98 miles run finishing with a time of 15:42.5, while William finished in the top 20 in the 2.98 miles(V) run finishing with a time of 16:01.0. Although not too exciting, Head Coach of Boys Cross Mr. Roof says ,“ Both sophomores Hunter Whitney and William Archer continue to be the top 2 runners. Coach Roof also mentioned that sophomore Kyle Smorynski is “drastically improving”.
As for Junior Varsity and Freshman/Sophomore teams, they continue to do exceptionally well. JV runners Colum McNally, Theo Canji, and Thomas Hunt, finished in the top 5 for the Junior Varsity 2.98 miles run with times (in-order) of 16:42.5, 16.43.7, and 16:49.6. Freshman/Sophomore finished in the top 20 for their 2.98 miles run. Most notably Eli Ferguson, Charlie Beals, and Ian Yeagle.
The team did a superb job. Coach Roof said the expectations for the rest of the season is “to be where we need to be and to be ready to win the City Championship despite a shortened season with no State Championship”.
