Lane Tech Boys Basketball falls short against rival Taft
LANE GYM 1-The Lane Tech Boys Basketball team suffered a tight 55-56 loss against Taft this past Monday, March 8th. Despite challenges that led them to add a loss to their now 3-2 record, the team put on a hardworking performance and continued to prevail as their top scorers and impeccable defense dominated the court.
Lane ended the first quarter with a solid 11 point lead. Lane’s top scorer, junior Sean Molloy, racked up 6 points for his team followed by junior Joseph Perona. As the first half came to a close, Taft still trailed behind with the score being 31-25. Taft junior, Joseph Rodriguez, was starting to consistently make points.
With a close score going into the second half, the top scorers for Lane remained prevalent. Sean Molloy finished the game with a total of 15 points, followed by senior Joe Kensik. Taft’s Joseph Rodriguez had a second half surge finishing the game with a total of 28 points. Although Lane had a strong start in the first half, the Eagles managed to make a comeback, gaining 31 points in the second half, more than half of those being from their top scorer Rodriguez. This resulted with a final score of 55-56 and despite the tough loss, the team finished with an impressive performance.
The boys varsity basketball team’s next game will be against Westinghouse this Wednesday, March 10th. An away conference game that will be broadcasted by the opposing team. Be sure to tune in to watch them continue to dominate the court, as well as the rest of their games this season.
