Lane Tech Takes 5th in Loaded, Muddy Race

MONTROSE BEACH - This past Saturday, the 28th, Lane Tech’s varsity boys Cross Country team finished 5th overall in a 5000 meter race despite the many teams at the event and slippery ground conditions. Leading the way for Lane Tech was Theo Canji, who finished 22nd out of all racers with a time of 17 minutes and 30.2 seconds.

Racing conditions were not ideal as it had stormed the night before, leaving the ground muddy and causing the runners to slip and slide. Distance runner, Andrew Bishop, who finished the race in 18 minutes, stated that “(The race went) decent, wasn't a race for time as it was muddy and nasty. (I) ran smart, pursued each person in the race and had a nice final kick.” The team raced well, overcoming adversity and pushing through until the end of the race.

As the ground begins to dry, the team looks to race even more successfully at their next event up in Legion Park, Illinois on Tuesday, October 1st. With Cross Country Championships just around the corner, Varsity will use these last few events to prepare and hopefully bring home the gold.
