LT Girls' Swimming and Diving Ends the Season on a High Note

The Girls’ Swim Team ended their record-breaking and championship-winning season on a high note, sending a team of swimmers to the Illinois State Championships on Friday.  Senior Elena Escalante finished strong in the 100 Freestyle and anchored the 400 Freestyle Relay to another school record.  The team of Escalante, Maddie Zehr (Soph), Morgan Rummelhoff (Soph) and Anastazja Szukala (Fresh) went in seeded 26th out of 35 teams and was the only CPS relay team to qualify for State.  Lane beat out 20 other teams to finish in 15th place, with a school record-breaking time of 3:33.30.

This team finishes out this season as Varsity and Junior Varsity City Champions and as Frosh-Soph Runners-Up.  It broke CPS records in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay, and 400 Freestyle Relay, as well as long-standing school records in the 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relays, and the individual 100 Free and 200 Free by Escalante.

Congratulations to Coach Cortez and all of his swimmers for a very successful season, best of luck to our senior swimmers and we look forward to seeing what this team does again next year!
