Highland Bulldog Boys XC Opener
For many Griffins their running started this past winter, through a track season cancelled, and over a summer of base training; the expectations of racing in their first race since the 2019 Cross Country State Finals were high. The Griffins looked "masked" in their attempts to achieve immediate redemption; there are better races ahead.
2A Highland won the Varsity boys race with 30 points, Father McGivney was second with 50, followed by Trenton Wesclin, Chester, and Alton Marquette. Tyler Guthrie was runner-up in 16:12, sophomore Riley Strack ran #2 for the Griffins finishing 5th overall (super effort; went out strong, and raced well), Tanner Fox was 11th, Andrew Dupy 14th, and sophomore Nolan Shearer 18th to finish out the scoring. Noah Beltramea was 21st.
In the JV boy's race, Evan Rybak medaled with a 3rd place, with Wyatt Biermann finishing 7th; both excellent efforts. Freshmen Nathan Terhaar was 13th, and Colin Moore 14th in their first high school races.
The next race is the 47th Annual Granite City Invitational next Saturday, September 5. With the revamped COVID restrictions, it will be a varsity only competition. All runners return to Granite City on Sept. 9.
