Game Summary

Highland Bulldog Girls XC Opener

For many Griffins their running started this past winter, through a track season cancelled, and over a summer of base training; the expectations of racing in their first race since the 2019 Cross Country State Finals were high. The Griffins looked "masked" in their attempts to achieve immediate redemption; there are better races ahead.

Splitting the girl's team between varsity/JV races resulted in no team scores for the Ladies, but excellent results; sophomores Alyssa Terhaar and Emma Martinez raced well finishing 6th/7th respectively in the varsity girl's race. Amelia Beltramea was 14th, and Isabel Margarida 24th.  In her first 3 mile race ever, freshman Kaitlyn Hatley won the JV girl's race in a gutty 22:18 over 3 miles; Claire Stanhaus also medaled in 4th overall.  Combining the girl's squad next week at Granite City looks promising for the Lady Griffins.
The next race is the 47th Annual Granite City Invitational next Saturday, September 5.  With the revamped COVID restrictions, it will be a varsity only competition.  All runners return to Granite City on Sept. 9.
