Three races in 7 days; the COVID schedule-effect is not a prescription for fresh legs, but the Father McGivney Running Griffins competed hard at the Freeburg Invitational (Freeburg, Breese Central, Breese Mater Dei, Marissa, New Athens, Evansville Christ our Savior) with the girls finishing second to Freeburg, and the boys third to Freeburg and Breese Mater Dei respectfully. We were very proud of our runners; they took a less-than-ideal situation, and raced with a tremendous amount of heart!
The Ladies were led by Kaitlyn Hatley second overall in 19:24. The freshman ran smart, after setting her lifetime PR of 19:03 on Tuesday, she was able to distance herself from the field and secure the low points for the girls. Alyssa Terhaar, after running her lifetime PR a week ago at Wesclin, ran a strong #2 for the ladies finishing in the Top 10/medaling in 7th. Emma Martinez/Claire Stanhaus have been trading places over the past month, and Saturday finished 1 second apart in13th/14th; Emma running 21:23 for a lifetime PR. How does that happen after 3 races in a week? Amazing!! The Lady Griffin's 5th scorer was again Sophia Luna in 28th. Amelia Beltramea raced to 29th, and Izzy Margarida 31st.
In the JV Girls race, Ava Tidball ran a lifetime PR in 27:05 finishing 14th, and Naomi Thiems raced to 18th overall in 29:37.
Since the Madison County/Prairie State Conference were dual-scored on Tuesday, the Father McGivney cross country teams are now idle until Saturday, October 24th where they travel to Carlinville for the IHSA State Regionals.
