Boys Cross Country is on Their Way to State][\eee3
The Father McGivney Catholic High School Boy’s Team punched their ticket to the IHSA State Championships by finishing 4th/21 (top 5 qualify) in the IHSA [South Region] Sectional Saturday in Benton. Not all of our goals were achieved on Saturday, but we now get to race next weekend at Detweiller Park in Peoria, IL in the largest one-day State Cross Country Championships in the Nation...the Griffins are one of the top 1A schools in the State!!
After winning the Regional Championship last week, the team concentrated on qualifying; our team is defined by our front-runners, a solid #4, and #5-7 in a tight pack. When one of those areas doesn’t “click”, our overall team score drops a bit, but we want to be “good enough” to advance. Our #1 and 2 runners Tyler Guthrie and Zach Brasel were a bit off from their usual, and we still found a way. Tyler finished 6th (15:03), and Zach 24th (15:57), but Brandon Ahring and Tanner Fox ran HUGE for the Griffins; Brandon running 15:30 (13th), and Tanner 16:26 (36th)! Last week in Regionals we raced fresh Nolan Shearer/Evan Rybak, while resting Riley Strack and Andrew Dupy; Riley and Andrew ran within 5 seconds of each other 17:13/17:19, for our 5th man score at 81st. Noah Beltramea ran 17:40 in 100th.
After being the first team to qualify for the State Finals @ FMCHS last year, the Running Griffins are proud to be able to repeat that performance and represent Father McGivney Catholic High School again in the IHSA State Finals at Detweiller Park at 10:00 a.m. on 11/9/19.
