Boys Cross Country Finishes 15th at IHSA State Finals

The Running Griffins achieved a “Top 15 Team” and “All-State” Individual Recognition; scoring 387 points/15th, plus Tyler Guthrie running to 15th overall, and the very first FMCHS All-State Athlete, in the squad’s second straight State Cross Country Championship Qualification (14th/2018).

The cross country team turned in 5 season bests/4 personal bests over 3 miles in their State Championship Race.  Tyler Guthrie led the way with his All-State performance in 15th-overall running a PR 15:20.  Brandon Ahring and Zach Brasel both ran personal bests in 16:10/16:11 in 73/78th overall.  The State Meet’s hyper competitiveness reflects their 1 second time differential, and 5 places!  Tremendous efforts by both; side-by-side the entire 3 miles.  Tanner Fox was 4th man in 17:09/158th, and Andrew Dupy battled for our fifth scorer in 17:59/190.  Freshman Riley Strack ran 18:06/194, and Noah Beltramea 18:18/201 raced in their first State Championship.

Senior Zach Brasel will be difficult to replace; the four-year runner has made a huge impact for FMCHS Griffins cross country.  The challenge is now there for next year’s version of the cross country team; prepare and be ready to shatter the ceiling of the past two year’s achievements!!

Coach Jim Helton was assisted by Russ Hart, and Joe Shannon.
