Game Summary

Griffins Cross Country @ First to the Finish Invitational

The Father Mcgivney Griffins ran the F2F Invit. at SIUE on Saturday morning, and came away with program firsts.  The 1st individual meet champion in Tyler Guthrie; the top F2F finish by any boy’/girl’s squad (2nd); and co-hosting the Invitational with over 800 middle school runners, and 750 high school runners.

The rain on Friday (plus 1,600 middle school feet prior to the varsity girl’s race!) made for a slow and slippery course on Saturday morning.  Three Lady Griffins ran the sloppy 3.1 hilly course with freshman Alyssa Terhaar finishing 135/278 in her first cross country race.  Amelia Beltremea was 200th, and Bridget Weeks ran 225th.  Izzy Margarida and Carolyn Foppe will open their season in Peoria on September 14.

The Griffins finished 2nd overall (40 schools) led by Tyler Guthrie’s meet championship.  Tyler ran 16:53 over 3.1 miles winning by 33 seconds.  Zach Brasel (7th) and Brandon Ahring (8th) were also top 10 medalists competing well in the first meet of the season.  Tanner Fox was 20th overall, with freshman Riley Strack running in his first ever cross country race finishing 93rd/367.  Juniors Noah Beltremea and Andrew Dupy were 122nd and 128th.  Freshman Nolan Shearer was close at 131st, and frosh Evan Rybak finished 169th.

Competition was fierce, and conditions difficult at SIUE; both the girl’s and boy’s teams now return to competition traveling to Peoria on September 14th, with some of the top-ranked cross country teams in IL on the legendary Detweiller State Cross Country site.
