Fall 2020 Contact Days Information

Dear Niles West Students & Families,

Last week, our District announced that interested sports teams could start scheduling OUTSIDE ONLY IHSA allowed “contact days.” As a result, many sports are prepared to begin their socially distant workouts next week. Sport specific contact day information and the current schedule can be found here: West Contact Days Fall 2020 Schedule

*Please note, not all sports are listed. As a result of the outdoor requirement, there may be some sports that may not find the contact day option pertinent to their sport and/or the coaching staff does not feel comfortable during this time.

Before Your First Session: All athletes must be registered on 8 to 18 and have a current physical on file in order to participate. Registration is open on our website; West Athletics Website (click on the gray Registration tab). If you have any issues, check out this video for help: Registering for a West Sport. Link for physical form: IHSA Physical Form. Completed forms can be emailed to or faxed to our office @ 847-626-3840.

Please read this document: Fall Contact Days Policies and Procedures for detailed information so all athletes and parents are aware of our safety protocols for next week. One big change, if you had participated over the summer, is that all athletes are required to wear masks as they participate in any contact day session AT ALL TIMES

Participating in contact days is completely optional for both students and staff. In addition, the administrative team reserves the right to cancel any activity based upon compromised health and safety protocols or the threat of adverse weather.

Thank you for your continued patience as athletic information is constantly changing. For sport specific questions, please contact the Head Coach listed on the schedule document.

Thank you,

Dr. Krilich, Niles West Athletic Director

Mission Statement

Participation in interscholastic athletics provides students with opportunities to acquire important, lifelong skills for future success in life.  In addition, the athletic program is designed to positively contribute to the Niles Township community.  Through intentional teaching and positive reinforcement, we strive to teach our students the power of success through humility, and perseverance through challenges, obstacles, and defeat.

The primary objective of the athletic programs in the Niles Township High School District is to provide wholesome opportunities for students to compete and learn important life lessons, values, and favorable habits and attitudes in social settings.  To realize this goal, District 219 athletic programs recognize the value of participation and commitment to developing a competitive interscholastic athletic program, and emphasize the importance of balancing victory with defeat in order to develop and improve positive character traits among all participants.

Every effort is made to support District 219 athletic programs with the best facilities, equipment, and most qualified staff available.  Coaches, directors, and sponsors must be positive role models with knowledge of their activity, ethical behavior, strong leadership, and interest in the holistic development of all student athletes.

All student athletes are held to high expectations of academic achievement and success in the classroom.  Coaches and teachers work as partners to provide opportunities for the success of every student.  District 219 athletic programs seek to provide a positive image of athletics at Niles West and Niles North High Schools, strive for excellence that will produce winning teams within the bounds of good sportsmanship, and ensure growth and development that will increase the number of individual participants in interscholastic athletics.
