Sept. 20 at the Peoria Notre Dame Invite Many of state’s best face off on course where state finals will be held Nov. 8
Oct. 9 at York Great midseason test of where Trojans stand against state’s premier program
The Trojans lost sectional qualifiers Aaron Silver and Michael Lifson to graduation, but Silver’s younger brother Ben appears set to follow a good freshman season with even bigger things. His time of 15:02 in the season-opening St. Charles East Invite won the event by 12 seconds.
Phistry is also back from last year’s usual top finishers, and opened with a 17th-place finish. Stawarz (50th) also returns, and Llamas (who placed 51st) has been a nice addition.
“He’s out for the first time and has looked really good,” Kupisch said.
Proffitt took fifth in the freshmen race at St. Charles to likely earn an elevation to varsity, with sophomore Crist another newcomer joining Montague (63rd at St. Charles) and several upperclassmen in the running for the other spots.
“We have a lot of devoted and committed runners, and you need that,” Kupisch said. “They understand the concept of the team and to not just run for yourself. At St. Charles (eighth-place 182) we got a lot of great efforts from our young guys and new guys. I was very pleased with the effort.”
