Calleros Deals, Broncos Lose Heartbreaker in 8 Innings
The Broncos put together a solid effort against Holy Trinity in a big conference matchup with a little over 2 weeks until the Chicago Prep Conference Tournament. The Broncos got out to an early lead, as Staerkel reached base, stole second, and Rayquon Gray-Wheeler put a solid swing on a ball for an RBI single in the first. Jacob Calleros looked great on the mound, going 5 2/3 with 10 K's. Calleros limited the Tigers to 3 ER, but a few costly errors led to a tie game that went into the 8th inning. Brian Dahlstand was able to come in and contain the Tigers to give the Broncos a chance, but the Tigers fundamental station-to-station approach was just what they needed to pick up the W, executing a perfect squeeze play in the 8th to walk it off. Luke Staerkel led the Broncos offensive attack, going 3-4 on the day. Eichert, Gray-Wheeler, and Clark all had multiple hits on the day as the Broncos offense stayed hot with 12 hits. The Broncos will take on Chicago Hope in another big conference matchup tomorrow at Walther. First pitch is scheduled at 4:30 p.m.
