2019 Boys Golf Program
INTRODUCTION and COMMUNICATION
Incoming and Returning Golfers and Parents,
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the boys golf program. Although the season does not ‘officially’ begin until August 12th, I would like to I get the season started by July 1st. (IHSA allows 25 contact days with the players in the off season) I am going to outline some objectives we need to meet before the start of the season.
COMMUNICATION - Communication is necessary to have a successful experience in any phase of our lives. I believe we will have five primary means of communicating:
Coach to Player
Player to Parent
Parent to Coach
Coach to AD (school)
Parent to AD (school)
Unfortunately, the numerous methods of communicating information has created confusion and unnecessary stress in our lives.
Communication for the boys golf program will use THREE sources:
Face to Face - Coach to Player; Player to Coach; Coach to Parent; Parent to Coach; Player to Parent; Parent to Player
Haiku - Used as a hub for short term and long term scheduling that allows all parties involved (Coach, Player, Parent and AD) access in a timely fashion. I will have quicker access to this mode of communicaing during the school day.
Text messaging - I will use this method to communicate last minute changes and adjustments in schedule times, personnel changes, and location adjustments. Why text? A couple reasons:
I don’t do facebook, twitter, instagram or snapchat.
I will not have the chance to put changes on 8 to 18 during school.
General Practice and Match Schedule
PRACTICES/MATCHES AT BONNIE DUNDEE
Most practices at Bonnie will run from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.
PRACTICES/MATCHES AT RANDALL OAKS
Randall Oaks has agreed to give us access to the driving range and practice areas at 5:00 pm. Most of the practices at Randall will conclude by 7:00 pm
Where do I go on Practice Days?
Each golfer will be assigned to one of three locations on
practice days. The three options will include:
1. Bonnie Dundee,
2. Randall Range
3. Off/Statistics Update/ Mental Conditioning
Where do I go on Tournament or Match Days?
Each golfer will qualify for one of four positions on
tournament or match days
The four options will include:
1. Compete on the Varsity level
2. Compete on the JV level
3. Compete in Exhibition Match (if the course has
availability)
4. Have the day off
PROGRAM INFORMATION AND EXPECTATIONS
I. ADMINISTRATIVE PAPERWORK

Specific paperwork to be turned in includes:
Physical Clearance

Participation Fee Payment
PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY UNTIL ALL THEIR PAPERWORK AND FEES ARE TURNED IN AND THEIR FEES ARE PAID - NO EXCEPTIONS
II. MATCH SCHEDULES
The majority of matches have been set. We may have some additions. You can find the complete match schedule at Schedule @ Athletics 2000 However, due to weather, course availability or any other unforeseen circumstance, matches and practices may be changed.
III. BEGINNING OF THE SEASON
The official 2018 IHSA start date for boy’s golf is Monday, August 12, 2019.
IV. HOW MANY PLAYEARS MAKE THE TEAM?
Traditionally 16 to 22 golfers will be selected to play.
V. WHAT LEVEL OF COMPETITION WILL I PLAY?
The Fox Valley Conference offers two levels of competition. Each level has 7 players compete in the match. The best four scores are counted for the team score.
Varsity - The varsity level may consist of freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors.
Junior Varsity- This level will consist of freshmen, sophomores and maybe some juniors. Typically, seniors do not play at the 1evel.
VI. HOW DO I GET TO PLAY IN MATCHES OR TOURNAMENTS?
Players qualify to play in conference matches and 18-hole tournaments primarily based on their scores/averages.
VII. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MATCH AND A TOURNAMENT?
The primary differences are:
Matches are only 9-hole events.
Tournaments are 18-hole events. Only 5-6 golfers play in tournaments.
(Exception: FVC Tournament: 7 golfers will play)
VIII. WHEN WILL PRACTICE AND MATCHES BEGIN?
Practice times have not been set by the golf courses yet. As soon as we are assigned a time, the calendar will be updated.
The schedule is subject to change based on course/range availability and speed of play.
Matches will usually start between 4:00 and 5:00 pm. If the golf course allows a shotgun start, matches will usually start earlier.
IX. HOW DO I GET TO PRACTICES AND MATCHES?
Students may drive to practices or matches if the course/range is in the District 300 boundaries.
Activity Bus will be provided by the district to take the players to the course – leaves at 3:10 pm. The bus will not bring the players back to school. It is up to the players to arrange a ride home.
X. HOW DO I GET TO AWAY MATCHES?
District 300 Bus or the Dundee-Crown mini-bus will transport golfers to and from away golf matches
Traditionally, players have stored their golf clubs in the trunk of their teammates car, or in the physical education office.
XI. WHERE CAN I STORE MY BACKPACK DURING PRACTICE AND MATCHES?
During practice the majority of players store their back packs in the locker room at Bonnie Dundee. During away matches, the host school usually provides an area in the pro shop. IMPORTANT: DO NOT leave money, phones, or any other valuables in your backpack. Have a secure location for these items before you leave to play.
XII. DO I HAVE TO GO TO PRACTICE?
YES. If you want to play in the next match/tournament regardless of your scoring average, you must attend practice. If you are getting a lesson from a teaching pro, you must let me know the day before. You must get approval from coach at least one day before you will miss practice. APPROVAL IS NOT GUARANTEED. Players will not leave practice until coach releases them.
XIV. WHAT IF I HAVE A JOB? OR PLAY ANOTHER SPORT?
If there is a conflict with other interests or commitments, and you can only participate on a part-time basis, you will need to make a choice whether you commit to play golf or not.
XV. HOW IMPORTANT IS MY ACADEMIC STANDING?
Very Important. You must maintain your academic eligibility each week. Manage your time. We will have some late nights where we won’t return until 8:30 pm or later. DO YOUR HOMEWORK – NOW. DO NOT WAIT until the night before an assignment is due. Stay ahead with your homework.
XVI. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Players will be expected to look professional and well groomed for practices and matches. Specifically the players will wear…
A collared shirt tucked into a neat pressed pair of pants or shorts.
The shorts or pants must be pulled up above the hips.
A belt must be worn with the pants/shorts.
Blue jeans, cut-offs and ‘baggie’ wrinkled cargo shorts will not be acceptable.
Hats will be worn forward
Hair should be no longer than the top of the ear on the sides and the collar in the back.

NO. You cannot use your cell phone when you are in a match. It is a violation of IHSA rules. A rangefinder without slope is legal.
IPods will not be allowed on the course. You may use them when you are practicing at the range or on the putting green. Cell phones and iPods should remain in your golf bag while you are playing or practicing on the course.
