Girls Basketball: Dundee-Crown clinches 1st outright FVC title since 2004
In many ways, Friday's 48-29 win at Hampshire was completely typical hard-nosed, gritty, defensive Dundee-Crown basketball.
The Chargers forced 20 turnovers, held the Whips to 32% shooting, and allowed just 4 points in the first and third quarters, 7 in the second.
What the win meant to their program, however, was anything but typical.
Dundee-Crown clinched the Fox Valley Conference championship by a game over Burlington Central, the Chargers' first outright crown in 16 years.
They hoisted the conference trophy afterward, posed for pictures and celebrated with a large and loud turnout of Chargers students and fans.
"So many people counted them out when we went down with (injured players) Gianine (Boado), Arysia (Harris). They just wore each other on their backs and never for one point lost confidence in this journey," Chargers coach Sarah Miller said.
"They deserve it. The group I've had that has put the most time in by far and they deserve this. It's a special moment."
