Bolingbrook holds off late surge by Wildkits

State-ranked Bolingbrook held off a fourth quarter rally and snapped a 4-game winning string for the Wildkit basketball team in a 70-66 triumph at the War On The Shore shootout Saturday at Beardsley Gym.

Evanston closed to within 3 points after trailing by double digits for most of the contest and fell to 18-4 on the season. The hosts converted just 7-of-14 free throws in the fourth quarter and, for the game, shot only 38 percent (23-of-61) from the field.

Head coach Mike Ellis noted the change in game tempo in 24 hours following a win over a deliberate Glenbrook South team on Friday.

"Bolingbrook enjoys playing more of an up and down style, just like we do. But just because you're playing fast, that doesn't put points on the board," the coach said. "We missed a lot of layups and a lot of free throws tonight. Our free throw shooting was terrible (13-of-25 as a team). Bolingbrook is a really good team and we could have easily been put away by 20 points with the way we shot. We were  just not locked in."

Lance Jones led ETHS with 18 points but only shot 8-of-14 at the free throw line. Blake Peters added 17 points and Ryan Bost registered 12.
