Field event wins lift ETHS girls to runnerup spot

Alliyah Jones and Drew Patterson both scored key field event victories Friday to boost Evanston's girls track team to a runnerup finish at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational Saturday in Kankakee.

Jones dominated the triple jump competition with a best leap of 36 feet, 7.5 inches, almost two feet farther than the runnerup from Thornton. Patterson added a winning effort of 5 feet in the high jump.

Coach Fenton Gunter's team also counted individual wins from Asia Eddy, who led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 600-meter race with a winning tme of 1:43.86, and Abby Osterlund, who ruled the 1600 in 5:20.20.

ETHS added a pair of relay victories. In the 800, the unit of Sasha Gordon, Maia Hadaway, Kaila Holland and Jones raced to a clocking of 1:46.80, and in the 1600 Gordon, Hadaway and Jones combined with Mia Dzwierzynski for an eye-opening time of 4:11.24.

Lincoln-Way East claimed the team title with 174 points to 138 for ETHS.
