Soph Herrick makes splash at CSL South swim meet

Sophomore Charlie Herrick turned in season best times in both of his individual races and also helped Evanston's swimmers score runnerup honors in two different relays Saturday at the Central Suburban League South division meet held at New Trier.

Herrick earned runnerup honors in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.42 seconds, more than 2 seconds faster than his previous best, and also claimed 3rd place in the 100 freestyle in 48.27.

He teamed up with Caden Hardy, Alex Johnson and Charlie Duffy for a 1:38.39 clocking good for 2nd in the 200 medley relay, and the quartet of Herrick, John Martin, Brendan Long and Aaron Martin placed 2nd in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:13.85, another season best.

Evanston improved on its seed times and places in all but 3 total races on the day. The Wildkits placed 3rd in the team standings with 446 points behind state powers Glenbrook South (586) and New Trier (480).

Also scoring top finishes for the Wildkits were diver Aryeh Lesch, 2nd with 422.05 points; John Martin, 2nd in the 500 freestyle in 4:45.89 and 3rd in the 200 IM in 1:57.77; Long, 3rd in the 500 freestyle in 4:49.88 and 4th in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.55; Duffy, 3rd in the 50 freestyle in 22.09; and Milo Balzer, 4th in the 100 butterfly in 53.39.
