Wildkit girls sink No. 1 ranked water polo team

Evanston’s girls scored the upset of the high school water polo season Saturday, dumping defending state champion Stevenson by a 9-2 score in a quad meet at Stevenson.

It marked the first defeat for the top-ranked Patriots since the 2018 season.

Evanston goalie Alliey Cunningham was credited with 14 saves. Natalie Long’s 4 goals paced the ETHS offense, while Claire Kennedy and Ava Santos Volpe netted a pair of goals apiece.

Coach Andy Miner’s Wildkits, now 8-4 overall, split their other two matches, bowing 9-8 in overtime to Naperville Central and defeating Fenwick 9-5. Erin Long and Samantha Rhodes each scored 3 goals in the OT loss.

Against Fenwick, 8 different players scored goals for ETHS.
