Spikers miss out on opportunity to upend Trevs

New Trier's 13 missed serves only added up to a missed opportunity for Evanston's up-and-down boys volleyball team Monday night at Beardsley Gym.

The Trevians still prevailed despite all those missed serves, scoring a 26-24, 25-15 Central Suburban League South division triumph. The two teams meet again Wednesday at New Trier.

New Trier trailed 17-11 in the first set before battling back for the win, then overcame an early 4-0 deficit in the second set against Coach Stanley Antoine's Wildkits. A pair of ace serves by senior Olu Logan helped provide that early lead for ETHS in the second set, but the Kits couldn't muster much offense after that.

"It all comes down to consistency and closing out sets," said Antoine, in his first season as head coach. "Our focus is still to keep playing one point at a time and to keep moving forward. We're making too many errors on our side of the net, and we need to clean things up. Like tonight, in the first set our transition offense was there, but we were just making too many errors.

"Losing close ones, like we have been, hurts your morale and it's tough to see growth when that happens. We just have to commit to improve and to keep working together."
