Cless, Johnson pace Kits to invitational title

Matt Cless and Kalil Johnson both racked up a pair of individual victories and led Evanston's track team to the championship at the St. Rita Co-Ed Invitational meet Saturday.

Cless soared a personal best 6 feet, 6 inches (1.98 meters) to take top honors in the high jump, and also scored a first place finish in the triple jump at 12.10 meters. Johnson chalked up the fastest time to date in the state of Illinois --- 14.10 --- to win the 110-meter hurdles, then came back to capture the 300 hurdles in 39.27, a personal best.

Also scoring individual wins for the Wildkits were Essay Tolosa, 2:06.33 in the 800; Ellis Allen, 5:00.20 in the 1600; Henry O'Malley, 10:37.57 in the 3200; Jalen James, 5.70 meters in the long jump; and Tim Russell, 34.90 meters in the discus throw.

As a team, Evanston ruled the 9-team field with 189 points. Proviso West placed 2nd with 96.
