BOYS SWIMMING and DIVING | Varsity

The Fenton High School Boys Swim and Dive Team started the season in November and ...

… our dual meet record for the season was 4 wins and 2 losses, and the season also includes a 5th Place finish in Sectionals at Glenbrook South High School, 3rd Place in the Conference Championship on February 2nd in Oswego, a 1st Place finish at the IMSA Invitational on January 12, a 2nd Place at the Leyden Invite, and 3rd Place at the Elk Grove Invitational on January 5, and a 2nd Place finish at the West Chicago Invite on Jan 26.

The Sectionals finish and Conference Championship 3rd Place along with the Leyden Invite, Elk Grove, IMSA and West Chicago finishes were high water marks for this talented swim team. The foursome of Fischer, Oberski, Feddersen and Janovsky led the team to its best seasonal performance in 25 years.  That said, Special thanks to seniors Lucas Feddersen, Nikolas Fischer, Matthew Janovsky, Jordan Loyola, Matthew McElroy, Conrad Oberski, and Brandon Stiltner for their spirit and resolve; each of these students were instrumental in the overall development of a competitive team.   From freshman year on, these young men sought to excel and compete in the best of Fenton athletic traditions.

The team celebrated its season’s accomplishments with an awards event.  The Most Valuable swimmer award went to Senior Nik Fischer who was a finalist at State in the 100 yard Backstroke earning All-State honors.  The Most Improved Award went to Brandon Stiltner, who trained with focus and consistency.  The Coaches Award went to Conrad Oberski, Matt Janovsky, Lucas Feddersen and Nik Fischer for their workout regimes and performances, qualifying for the State Championship, and earning All-Conference honors.  Varsity swimmers and divers receiving All-Conference Academic honors for their 3.5 or higher average were Matthew Cyran, Brendon Dal, Lucas Feddersen, Nik Fischer, Jason Gasior, Matthew Janovsky, Jordan Loyola, Matt McElroy, and Kasper Widlo.

Congratulations to Matthew Cyran, Brendon Dal, Jason Gasior, Ivan Golovin, Maciej Sporna, Joseph Mazariegos, Daniel Roucka, Kamil Widlo, Patryk Bartnik, Yael Monzalvo, Nickolas Pietrasz, Michael Rogowski, Logan Selck, and Kasper Widlo for making this season fun for all.

The Boys Swim Team members competing at the State Swim Championships recently enjoyed and learned from swimming against the best.  Nik Fischer’s preliminary swim on Friday was fast and advanced him to Saturday’s Finals in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Nik finished in 12th place earning All-State honors.  Fenton’s Medley Relay of Fischer, Conrad Oberski, Matt Janovsky and Lucas Feddersen swam fast but not fast enough to advance to the finals, with Friday’s swim capping a fine season.

On Saturday, February 16th the Boys Swimming Team took 5th Place at their Illinois State Sectionals Meet at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, competing against 12 other teams.  The 200 Yard Medley Relay of Nik Fischer, Conrad Oberski, Matt Janovsky and Lucas Feddersen qualified for the Illinois State High School Championships at New Trier High School in Fenton HS school record time of 1:37.07 seconds.  Nik Fischer likewise qualified for the State Championships in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 52.48 seconds.  Nik was a medalist in the 100 Yard Freestyle and was joined as a medalist by Conrad Oberski in the 50 Freestyle (3rd Place) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (6th Place).  Each narrowly missed qualifying for the State meet in these events by 1.2 seconds, or less.   This State Championship qualifying relay is the first relay to qualify in 25 plus years.  The last relay team known to qualify was the 1993 Medley Relay team of Casey Hnatiuk, Ryan Migawa, Tim Saunders and Tim Schulle, that finished in 12th Place in State.

Nik Fischer last year was believed to be the first male swimmer to qualify for the state meet in 25 years, since Fenton’s Tim Schnulle was State Champion in 1993 in the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Nik’s realistic goal this year in the 100 Yard Backstroke is to be a medalist, as well.

The 200 Freestyle Relay Team of Oberski, Janovsky, Feddersen and Fischer finished in in 5th Place in School Record Time of 1:29.37 seconds.  Matt Janovsky and Lucas Feddersen also had two of the strongest meets of their fine careers helping to lead the team to their important 5th Place team finish.  The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Matt McElroy, Maciej Sporna, Jordan Loyola, and Kasper Widlo finished in 9th place with their season best time.  Junior Jason Gasior and freshman Patryk Bartnik competed well in Sectionals setting personal best marks in their events. Brandon Stiltner, Brendon Dal, and Kamil Widlo finished out the Sectionals squad for this strong Fenton Team.  Go Bison!

On Saturday, Feb 2nd,  the Boys Swim and Dive Team took a Team 3rd Place in their Conference Championship Meet.  The Medley Relay of Nik Fischer, Conrad Oberski, Matt Janovsky and Lucas Feddersen took 1st Place.  Fischer was Conference Champ in the 100 Backstroke in State Qualifying time, and 2nd in the 100 Freestyle.  Oberski, Janovsky, Feddersen were individual multiple event medalists, and Matt Cyran was a medalist in Diving.  Matt McElroy, Jason Gasior, Maciej Sporna, Patryk Bartnik and Kasper Widlo scored valuable points in their swims contributing to this excellent team finish.  Go Bison!

On Saturday, January 26th, the Boys Swim Team took Second Place at the West Chicago Invite competing against 9 other teams, its highest finish in this Meet.  The 200 Freestyle Relay of Fischer, Janovsky, Feddersen and Oberski winning first place helped to secure the team’s finish.  Co-captain Matt Janovsky had two third-place finishes in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly.  Matt’s gritty 200 Freestyle performance in the second event of the meet set the tone for the team’s performance.  Nik Fischer continued his dominant season by winning two individual events, the 100 Freestyle and Backstroke.  Lucas Feddersen set a personal best time leading to strong 50 and 500 Freestyle 3rd Place finishes.  Conrad Oberski won the 50 Freestyle and finished in 2nd Place in the 100 Breaststroke.  Freshman Kasper Widlo had two top six finishes in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Freestyle.  Matt McElroy, Maciej Sporna, Jordan Loyola, Jason Gasior, and Patryk Bartnik had fast swims and several personal best times that were needed to secure the team’s finish.  Go Bison!

Fenton beat the Addison Trail and Willowbrook HS Co-op in a tightly fought meet on Wed January 23rd by the score of 102 to 74.   Janovsky, Feddersen and Oberski each had two individual wins and with Nik Fischer, one relay win.  Nik Fischer also won the 100 Backstroke.  Strong performances by Seniors Matt McElroy, Brandon Stiltner and Jordan Loyola, Juniors Jason Gasior, Maciej Sporna, Brendon Dal, Matt Cyran, Sophomores Kamil Widlo and Joe Mazariegos, and Freshman Kasper Widlo and Patryk Bartnik helped to garner important points.  On the JV front the team won as ATWB entered all their swimmers in the Varsity meet.  Freshman Logan Selck continued his improving season by winning the 200 and 500 Freestyle.  Ivan Golovin won the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley.  Michael Rogowski, Yael Monzalvo and Nick Pietrasz had nice swims and continue to steadily improve.  Go Bison!

The Buffalo Grove Invite was an important meet for the team competing against a strong field of 15 other teams including powerhouse Highland Park and Cary Grove who finished first and second.  The meet lets you know where you stand at the second portion of the season.  Our 200 Freestyle and Medley Relays of Fisher, Oberski, Janovsky and Feddersen finished 4th in the Medley and 5th in the Freestyle relay a scant 1.02 seconds out of 1st Place.  Conrad Oberski finished 3rd out of 44 other swimmers in his 50 Yard Freestyle event.  Nik Fischer won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a 49.01 time beating 40 other competitors.  This team performance bodes well for the coming championship season.

The Joliet Central dual meet was down to the wire ending in an 86 to 84 victory for our Bison Swimmers.  Senior team leaders of Fischer, Feddersen, Oberski and Janovsky were each instrumental in leading the team to victory starting with their win in the 200 Medley Relay.  Janovsky had individual first and second place finishes, as did Oberski.  Fischer had two wins in the 100 Backstroke and Freestyle.  In a meet decided by two points the fifth place finishes for 1 point are equally important to the team.  Congratulations to all varsity swimmers including McElroy, Gasior, Sporna, Loyola, Dal, Stiltner, Mazariegos, Widlo, and Bartnik.  Without your swims the team would not have won the meet!

The Varsity Boys Swim Team finished tied for First Place at the IMSA Invitational on Saturday. Nik Fischer, Conrad Oberski, and Lucas Feddersen each had first and second place finishes in their individual events to lead scoring, and teaming with Matt Janovsky had first and second place finishes in their relays.  Matt McElroy, Jordan Loyola, Jason Gasior, Maciej Sporna, Kasper Widlo and Patryk Bartnik each contributed points enabling the team win.  This was the team’s first Invitational win in many years.  The JV team had a strong meet, as well, finishing in second place.  Go Bison!

The Boys Swim Team finished third out of eight teams in the Elk Grove Invitational. The perennial strong teams of Highland Park and Cary Grove Co-op were 1st and 2nd with Elk Grove finishing in 4th place.  Nik Fischer set a meet record of 54.07 seconds in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Nik also won the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Conrad Oberski finished second in 50 yard freestyle.  The 200 yard Medley relay team of Fischer, Oberski, Janovsky and Feddersen finished second.  The entire team competed well and has been practicing hard which should lead to a strong second half of the season.  Go Bison!

Nik Fischer and Conrad Oberski led scoring at the Riverside-Brookfield dual meet with each swimmer taking two individual first-place finishes, and a Relay win along with Matt Janovsky and Jordan Loyola.  Fenton lost the meet to RBHS but competed well with Jason Gasior taking a second in the 500 Freestyle and Matt Janovsky finishing second in the 200 Freestyle.

The Boys Swim Team finished 2nd at the Leyden Invite on Saturday December 15 versus 5 other teams.  Nik Fischer and Conrad Oberski led scoring with two individual wins and two relay wins. Lucas Feddersen had an individual win and two relay wins.  This was the team’s highest finish in many years.  Congratulations Bison swimmers!

On Tuesday, Dec 11, Fenton’s Boys Varsity Swim and Dive Team won 11 of 12 events versus Morris High School winning the contest by a score of 123 to 62.  Seniors Nik Fischer, Conrad Oberski, and Matt Janovsky each won two individual events, senior Lucas Feddersen and freshman Kasper Widlo were the other swimmers winning individual events.  Congratulations swimmers, Go Bison!

The Boys lost competitive meets with IMSA on December 4th on both the Varsity and JV level.  The depth of IMSA proved too strong for our swimmers.  Conrad Oberski had a personal best in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a winning time of 22.32 seconds.  Nik Fischer also won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a winning time of 49.99 seconds.  Nik Fischer, Conrad Oberski, Lucas Feddersen, Matt Janovsky and Kasper Widlo were our other Varsity winners in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.  On the JV front, Ivan Golovin won the 100 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Breaststroke.  Our next meet is versus Morris High School on December 11th.

The Boys Swim Team had strong team wins versus Elgin High School to start the season, taking first place in 19 of 22 Varsity and JV events.  The winning performances were led by Co-captains Matt Janovsky and Nik Fischer, and Senior Lucas Feddersen.  Congratulations Bison Swimmers!
