GENOA-KINGSTON ATHLETICS PRESS RELEASE
On Friday, June 5th, 2020, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) released their initial guidelines for Stage 1 in regards to reopening school-based athletics in the state of Illinois. The guidelines were developed by the IHSA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, reviewed and approved by the IHSA Board of Directors and approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
As is the case with any summer activities for all IHSA member schools, any plans to convene students with an instructor should be reviewed and approved by the local school district and local health departments. Therefore, the members of the GK administration along with members of the GK coaching staff at Genoa-Kingston CUSD #424 are currently collaboratively reviewing the guidelines and are working diligently to develop a plan to move forward. We are also in communications with several other local school districts as we determine the feasibility of potential plans and options moving forward.
Obviously, there are many topics to be discussed and several steps necessary for us to get this right as we begin with this transition. Please continue to remain patient as this is definitely a process. The GK Athletic Department will release our district plan once it is approved by the DeKalb County Department of Public Health and we are able to ensure the health and safety of all student-athletes, coaches and the community as a whole.
Thank you again to everyone for their continued support of our student-athletes, our Athletic Department and our entire School District. We are honored to be a part of this great Genoa-Kingston community and we look forward to collaborating with our student-athletes once again in the near future. Future updates will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter social media sites @GKCogsAthletics and on our GK Athletic website at https://il.8to18.com/g-k
